Earthworm Jim

Game profile: Earthworm Jim for Nintendo Game Boy Advance

Earthworm Jim is back and this time around he's fully portable thanks to the Game Boy Advance. Jim is a spineless hero but that's not his fault, worms just don't have spines. One day, a space suit fell from the sky and landed on a worm. Jim was born, blaster in hand. Groovy, baby.

Earthworm Jim is an action-packed portable platformer, a style of game well suited to the Advance. One day, Jim is left unconscious by a massive cow-induced blow to the head. Enter the weird and twisted world of Jim's psyche. Beware, there is an evil presence lurking in Jim's head, just waiting to get out.

Earthworm Jim has several abilities to help him cope with the whacked out environments. He can use his worm head as a helicopter to float down treacherous drops and he can even use himself as a whip. His plasma blaster is good weapon and slowly recharges its own energy. Jim's abilities also include jumping, climbing and swinging. He's quite a manoeuvrable and controllable worm.

Even though the graphics don't push the Advance hardware, they still remain colourful and well drawn. The later levels are twisted and stylish and the multiple levels of parallax scrolling create a decent impression of depth.

With an emphasis on comedy and gameplay, Earthworm Jim is one of the better platform games on the Game Boy Advance. A challenging adventure that is enjoyable all the way through, and more importantly, worth returning to again and again.
