Game profile: F-Zero: GP Legend for Nintendo Game Boy Advance

Nintendo's futuristic racing series has been a favourite for gamers of a certain disposition for many years and a handful of platforms from the arcades to home consoles. 2001 witnessed F-Zero's debut on Game Boy Advance in the guise of Maximum Velocity, and three years almost to the day, Captain Falcon and friends make their return to the gravity-defying tracks in GP Legend. Essentially more of the same - racing around some extraordinary tracks at ridiculously high speeds - GP Legend gets a subplot boost with a Story Mode. Gamers begin the game as a character called Rick Wheeler. As players progress through the Story Mode, new characters are unlocked, including F-Zero Captain Falcon, Samurai Goroh and the mysterious Black Shadow. Each story is accompanied by cut-scenes and dialogue unique to the characters involved. There are eight characters to unlock in total and 40 missions to complete in the Story Mode. The game also includes a number of other additional challenging racing modes. The Grand Prix mode has three different skill levels and three cups in each to win while The Zero Test mode requires players to master all manner of racing techniques to progress through 48 challenges. For diehard racers, there's the Time Attack mode and a Training mode, in which players can perfect their racing skills and skim vital seconds from lap times. F-Zero GP Legend will keep you interested for many hours in solo mode, and there's multi-player action available for up to four players using a single game pak and four Game Boy Advances linked together. If each player has a copy of the game, even more tracks and vehicles become available to race.
